كــفــــــــارة

Human Rights, Egypt, in English — Nora @ 23:32
Finally, Alaa is out
Finally Alaa is home. Kafarah is an Egyptian Arabic word commonly said to prisoners upon their release. We have been saying and hearing it for few hours now but still looking for its meaning. Manal is finally happy, both their phones are ringing nonestop bringing good wishes and warm support from here and abroad. Despite the horrible experiences especially at Omraneiia police station Alaa has hilarious stories to tell - my favorite episode is Kabaka taking a shower heheheh. Today is a cozy day with family and friends. Can’t wait to see Alaa’s stories posted..
كـفــارة يا معـــــلـم
While we are celebrating with cold water melon, grapes and ice cream cake the good news of Wael and Kamal Khalil release came..and as Laila Soeif puts it, there are still more than 600 pro-democracy activists detained on similar charges.. including Sharqawi and Sha3er..

  3. What a fantastic photo. It is so good to see that Alaa is at home!

Hopefully, all of the other pro-democracy activists will soon be out.

I am in complete awe of the bravery I have been seeing in Egypt - hopefully it will inspire more of us to hold those in power in all of our countries feet to the fire, and to hold them accountable!

  4. ما فيش انكار ان اي مظلوم يترفع عنه ظلم ده شيء جميل لكن الصورة ما فيهاش نفس الجمال لو بنعبر عن مصر لازم نعبر عن اخلاق الفلاح و العامل و التاكسجي
ur photo seemed intimate inn a western way

  5. Ya eye-of-the-beholder.. My photo is not for a worker or a taxi driver with all due respect. It is simply of Manal and Alaa. As they were. Just being themselves. They don’t have to pretend to be anything different of what they really are.. and honestly i don’t really think it is intimate in a western way. It is just a young egyptian couple enjoying their reunion and combating the horrible Cairo heat with cold grapes and water melon.. relax
